Rainbows and Crop Circles

April 13th, 2012

rainbow car
Well, things are moving along at a pretty good clips these days. It seems like magical moments are all around. Starting a business is fraught with impossible challenges. But lately, it feels a little like I have a rainbow beam following me around. I’ve just been tuning out the impossible. I just don’t pay it any mind. And I just keep moving forward.

mural
This week my rainbow beam is coming to me from the RAINBOW GROCERY in San Francisco, CA!!!! I have heard so many good things about this coop! From everyone I know in town.

kickstarter av
So I’m very pleased to announce that they are the latest retailer to start carrying my cheese!! The first order is arriving today. And there will be FREE SAMPLES while supplies last! Go on down and check it out.

crop circles
People keep asking me about my health. How am I holding up? Am I keeping it together? Things are going well. Aside from the usual funky displays of immune system dysfunction, I’m doing great! My energy is great. And I feel like I’ve finally rebuilt my blood enough that I’m not catching every bug that comes around.

dew drops
I attribute both of these outcomes to the high volume of WHEATGRASS I’ve been consuming very regularly. I think it’s also responsible for finally getting ahead of that dreaded CANDIDA infection that I struggled with forever.

octagon
These little crop circles on my arm perplex me. They are the oddest little octagonal shape. Perfectly reproduced. So intriguing. Not sure what that’s about. But don’t really have time to ponder it now. So I’ll just put that in a pot and throw it on the back burner. And I’ll keep you posted on how things develop…

Akin’s and Chamberlin’s

April 8th, 2012

akin's logo
I am on a roll! It’s so funny. You struggle and struggle for so long. Feeling like nothing is happening. And then one day, there’s a drop that makes the bucket overflow. I don’t feel like things have changed that much. Day to day, it’s the same old slog. But all of a sudden, the impact of everything starts to change. What a beautiful thing!

This week’s new development…I got an email from Akin’s! AKIN’S is a natural food store that I shopped at when I was in Oklahoma. In fact, it’s where I did most of my shopping when I was in CULINARY SCHOOL. I got an email from someone on the new products committee! They want to review my product for consideration!

chamberlin's
This is really exciting! Not only is Akin’s a store that I shop at. It’s a chain of 14 stores. There are 8 stores in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas. And they have a sister chain, Chamberlin’s, which is located throughout Florida. How cool is that?

store5
Looks like they’ve been around a while too. So this seems like a pretty promising development.

store 6
So…if you shop at any of these stores and are interested in getting your hands on some NUT MILK CHEESES, make a request!

It very likely will have a big impact right about now!

Good News…I’m FIRED!

March 27th, 2012

cheeses
More exciting developments! The other day I was doing an interview with a local radio station (coming very soon!!), and the question arose. What would you call yourself? Chef/Owner/Cheesemaker?

donaldI don’t remember exactly what I said. Something like Chef/Cheesemaker/Record Flipper/Former Shipping Specialist. I used to be a shipping specialist, but I fired myself. She thought that was so funny!  I guess it was kind of funny.  But I wasn’t kidding!  I really did fire myself.  Long story short…I ran a limited offer of my cheeses on my website.  And things quickly got out of control!  There were so many orders!  And shipping refrigerated items is well, kinda complicated.  I decided that I am ultimately better at making cheese than I am at shipping cheese.  So I got the axe.

vegan essentials
The good news is that VEGAN ESSENTIALS PICKED THEM UP! What’s more? They are great at shipping! So if you were mad at me for firing myself, mosey on over and say hello! I’m sure they’ll be glad to see you. :)

New Punk Rawkers

March 9th, 2012

cheeses
Well, things have been blowing up out here in the northland. I have been completely overwhelmed with cheese orders. It’s kind of mind blowing, really. Orders from all over the country. Alaska even. It is way more than I ever could have dreamed. So I’ve been scrambling to figure out how to best accomodate. The winter offering of CHEESES ON MY WEBSITE has ended. Last year, this ended without much fanfare. Not this year! We’ve definitely exceeded our capacity for handling of orders.

vegan essentials
The good news is that VEGAN ESSENTIALS is going to start carrying them on their site soon! You should see them there in the next couple weeks.

julie
We have some new cheesemakers too! This is Julie. She helped me way back when I had to teach INTRO TO RAW FOOD on crutches. Julie also works in the bulk section at our local coop. So she’s pretty acclimated to our local food scene. Plus, she used to own HYMIE’S RECORD STORE. How much more qualified could she be?

dan
Our other new cheesemaker is Dan. Dan was part of the team that opened ECOPOLITAN (Minneapolis’ only raw food restaurant). He’s worked at most of the veg friendly restaurants around here. And I had been unwittingly following his food around town. Now he is putting some of that love into our cheese. Yay!

More updates soon…Lots of developments on the way!

VegNews VegPicks

February 14th, 2012

cover
More good news! This week, I’ve gotten an insane influx of orders. At first, I thought it was just because of my KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN. But then someone mentioned to me in an email that she had heard about me from an article in VEG NEWS. So it looks like this little snowball is gaining some momentum…(page 79!)

Official Launch Party

January 9th, 2012

nut milk cheeses
Well, the time has come. The time for me to rejoin the world of the living. The last six years have been like a cocoon phase while I healed from my CASUALITIES of MODERN LIFE. But the universe has spoken. And it’s clearly time to move on to something bigger. I FINISHED PHYSICAL THERAPY a few weeks ago. And a couple days ago, PURE FOOD AND WINE placed their first order for my cheeses (which will soon be available in their juice bar)! If that’s not a foreshadowing moment, I don’t know what it. On that note, I’m announcing my OFFICIAL LAUNCH ON KICKSTARTER. The last several years have been kinda tough. But I’ve been getting by with a little help FROM MY FRIENDS. Thanks for joining me on this journey!

Holiday Recipe Series

December 13th, 2011

holiday cheese platter
Hello out there! Lots of exciting developments over here. I just FINISHED PHYSICAL THERAPY. And to celebrate, I am planning PUNK RAWK LABS official launch! Finally! We are kicking off the celebration with a HOLIDAY RECIPE SERIES on PUNK RAWK LABS TV. There is a video for how to make this lovely holiday cheese party platter there waiting for you.

flatbread
The cheese platter goes perfectly with this RUSTIC HOLIDAY FLATBREAD (whose recipe can also be found there).

mint nib
But we didn’t stop there! There is also a recipe for these mint nib macaroons using homegrown mint.

date cheese bites
These date cheese bites also pair nicely with the cheese platter…

truffles
And these chocolate truffles are always a crowd pleaser! Videos demoing all of these recipes can be found at PUNK RAWK LABS TV.

Last but not least, I have a Christmas carol for you. It’s me playing the piano! Truth be told, I posted it last year too. But our piano has been in storage for way too long. So alas, I don’t have a new one this year…

Last Farmer’s Market of the Season

October 12th, 2011

seedling avatar
Well, the time has come. It’s hard to believe. It all flew by so fast. This weekend is the last FARMER’S MARKET of the season. It has been an amazing season. I wasn’t even sure at the beginning if I was even UP FOR IT. But I stuck it out. And for that, I was rewarded handsomely. I LOVE THE FARMER’S MARKET! It is a beautiful community of people.

market av
So beautiful in fact that I dedicated an ENTIRE EPISODE OF PRL TV talking to some of my fellow vendors so that you could meet them too! I have gotten so much out of this experience that it is sad to let it go. But alas, winter is fast approaching.

cheeses
The good news is that although kale is going out of season, I will be participating in the Winter Market at the EASTSIDE COOP. Here I will be showcasing my NUT MILK CHEESES (which incidentally SHANNON MARIE, one of my oldest blogging buddies, of RAWDORABLE wrote the most WONDERFUL REVIEW for on her blog last week. I especially love the video featuring her daughter, Hayden. Shannon Marie has the most creative and down to earth blog. I love it! If you haven’t checked it out yet, you definitely should!).

First Farmer’s Market

June 7th, 2011

dewdrops
Look at these perfect little dew drops on my WINDOW WHEATGRASS GARDEN. They look like little diamonds. A perfect omen for my first day at the FARMER’S MARKET.

ready
Here I am all packed up and ready to go. I wasn’t sure how much to make. So I was way beyond ready. I’m kind of relieved actually. That is wasn’t as busy as I was ready for. Because I practically killed myself doing all this. Truth be told, I’m still working through a lot of ISSUES. Things without easy answers. So the actual pace of this market might be right on target with my capacity at the moment.

booth 34Here I am manning my booth at the market. I’m in booth #34 (right next to the info table) at the NE FARMER’S MARKET. I have to say that the farmer’s market is one of my favorite things. I love it! The energy is great. And the other folks that are involved are all great too. It definitely feels like I’m starting to connect back into society from a perspective that is closer to my heart. So that is a very positive development. According to MATTHEW SANFORD, figuring out how to connect back into society after an illness/trauma is the culmination of every healing story. Maybe that means I’m finally starting to see the peak of the mountain!

kombucha
Directly behind me is the Que Kombucha booth. I love these guys. They make the best kombucha. They grow sprouts too. And the best part is that they love kale chips. So we have a trade going.

revolucion
My friend, PAIGE, came to visit since it was my first day. And she spotted this truck that pulled up right in front of our booth. The door has a little cartoon that says ‘Viva la revolucion’ or something like that. I’m taking that as an omen too. No more sitting on the sidelines. I am now officially part of the revolution. VIVA!

Making It In The Big Apple

May 12th, 2011

window
It’s official! My two product lines (KALE CHIPS and NUT MILK CHEESES) are now available in New York City at LIVE LIVE AND ORGANIC!!

logo
My boyfriend visited the store recently when was in town doing SOUND AT RADIO CITY. He said they had the most amazing selection of raw vegan goodies.

store
If you live in the NYC area, check it out. They are at 261 E. 10th St, and they are doing free samples while supplies last.

kitty
Make sure to pet the kitty while you are there…Needless to say, I am very excited. Because you know what they say about making it in New York! I’m taking this as an omen that my luck is starting to turn.

frangipani
In other New York news, FRANGIPANI AND GINGERLILY (one of my favorite blogs by NY chef, Shernelle Cooke) wrote an excellent review of my kale chips this week (AND she’s giving away a small box of my chips)! Check out her site for some amazing and unique recipes…
